House of Soviets building

The House of Soviets in St. Petersburg is an exemplar of Stalinist architecture, erected between 1936 and 1941. Located in the Moskovsky District, it’s a prominent example of totalitarian architecture meant to exhibit the might of the Soviet state. Photo-travelers should note its symmetrical, monumental form and austere aesthetic, featuring imposing columns and bas-reliefs that evoke Socialist realism. The building retains the remnants of a Soviet crest adorned with hammers and sickles on its facade, which can be of particular interest for capturing elements of Soviet iconography. The surrounding Moskovskaya Square offers great perspectives for wide-angle shots, especially during the golden hour, when the setting sun casts dramatic shadows on the building's facade.
