It was built from 1656 to 1667 by Gian Lugi Bernini and represents a large musical oval with two stunning vertical façades, crafted from integrated sculptures and concentric circles. At the centre of the square lies a Crusader-era obelisk, given to Pope Sixtus V in 1586 by Domenico Fontana. This obelisk symbolizes Pietro's martyrdom, celebrated by its four surrounding fountains.
