Cuenca Cathedral
📍 Från Puente de San Pablo, Spain
The Cuenca Cathedral is a captivating example of Gothic architecture and is located in the old town of Cuenca, Spain. It is a Catholic Church and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The cathedral was built in 1257 by King Alfonso X and later underwent several renovations and expansions. Inside the cathedral, visitors can admire a beautiful Renaissance-style doorway, several paintings, a Baroque organ and a 16th century baptismal font. The Romanesque-style cloister, built with stones and bricks, is another highlight of the cathedral. It houses a unique garden, the only one in the world that contains azaleas, ferns and other exotic plants. From the terrace, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the city. Furthermore, the cathedral also has a crypt, which contains the tombs of some of Spain’s most famous rulers, such as Alfonso VIII. Cuenca Cathedral is a must-see for any visitor to this beautiful town.
