📍 France
The Cathédrale Basilique Sainte-Marie-Majeure (also known as "La Major") is a 19th-century Roman Catholic church located in Marseille in the south of France. It is the largest church in the city and one of the most remarkable examples of Neo-Byzantine architecture in France. The cathedral was built in 1893 and is the largest Romanesque church of Franco-Byzantine style. Its stunning exterior of white stone, decorated with multicolored tiles and intricate carvings, is a sight to behold. Inside the church, visitors can gaze upon the remarkable dome that reaches up to 32 meters in height, as well as the beautiful stained-glass windows and numerous religious artwork adorning the walls. Strolling through the nave is also a must and it's worth noting the regal and elaborate tones of gold and red that make the Mosaïques de la Major even more eye-catching. There are also ongoing exhibitions that display ancient and contemporary religious art.
