📍 Från Inside, Spain
The Catedral de Sevilla (The Cathedral of Seville) is the largest Gothic cathedral and oldest active cathedral in the world. The building of the cathedral commenced in 1402 on the site of an Almohad mosque that was destroyed during the Reconquista (the Spanish reconquest). This imposing structure features two imposing towers, a multitude of spires, gargoyles and other façade details and a large octagonal tower. The Chapel of San Antonio, built in the early 16th century, contains the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The cloister of oranges, built between 1367 and 1396, contains orange trees, fountains and a Gothic courtyard. Inside the cathedral, visitors can find a variety of art objects, such as stained-glass windows, Renaissance choir pieces, tapestries, an impressive altarpiece, and sculptures. Visitors may also take the lift up the Giralda bell tower, with views of the city.
