Utkieker is a lighthouse at the northern tip of the small German island of Spiekeroog. It is the last remaining manually operated lighthouse of its kind in Germany. The white cone-shaped lighthouse stands at an impressive 44 meters tall and was lit for the first time in 1865. Utkieker is a popular spot for tourists who visit the island of Spiekeroog for its expansive beaches, dunes and stunning views of the North Sea. From the lighthouse's viewing platform, visitors can take in the scenery including the surrounding sand dunes and the salty smell of the North Sea. Visitors should note that the watchhouse cannot be accessed and the lighthouse itself is closed to the public, however the landscaped terrain offers a great spot for taking a peaceful stroll and to simply admire the unparalleled views.
