Torre dell'Orologio - Italy
The Torre dell’Orologio (Clock Tower) in Vicopisano is a beacon of history that dates back to 1059 and was the first clock tower in the region. Standing 38 meters tall at the entrance to the old town, the clock tower was built around the Ancient Porta Pisana defense structure. It is one of the most iconic monuments of Vicopisano and still bears the emblems of the Vicopisano noble family, the Gherardesca family crest and motto. Climb the stairs to admire the stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. There are many nooks and secret passageways to explore within the old town, as well as a municipal museum and an expansive public park. Stay to watch the sun set and bask in the exposed evening light that the winding Tuscan hills are drenched in.
