Srebrenica Genocide Memorial - Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Srebrenica Genocide Memorial in Potočari, Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important reminder of the tragedy that occurred during the Bosnian War in 1995. The memorial is located about 40 kilometres north-east of the town of Srebrenica and stands as a monument to the 8,372 Muslim men and boys who were killed in this act of genocide. The memorial consists of large stone memorials engraved with the names of all the victims, as well as photographs and other poignant artifacts from the conflict. A peaceful visitors’ centre commemorating the carnage offers a range of exhibitions and activities to learn more about the terrible events that took place here. Visitors can also pay their respects and leave mementos for the victims at the graveyard of the Memorial Centre. It is a humbling experience to visit this memorial and remember those lost.
