The Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in the province of Granada, in southern Spain. It's the highest mountain range in continental Europe, with Mulhacén Peak, the highest peak of the Iberian Peninsula, reaching a height of 3,479 metres. It is also known for its rich wildlife: the mountains are home to numerous species of birds and mammals, including otters, eagles, griffon vultures, foxes and wild boars. The region is also known for its incredible landscapes and its lovely villages. Outdoor activities such as skiing and hiking are popular as they offer unparalleled views of the area. The Sierra Nevada national park offers visitors plenty of opportunities to explore the mountain range and its many attractions. The park has an abundance of streams and rivers, and the almond blossom season in February and March is spectacular. Other attractions include the Alpujarra villages, the medieval city of Granada and the world-famous Alhambra Palace.
