Portici

Portici is an area in the city of Bologna, Italy, located on the east side of the Reno river. The area is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. Portici offers plenty of attractions, including beautiful parks, theaters, museums and historic monuments. The most iconic landmark is the Basilica di San Petronio, a stunningly ornate cathedral dedicated to St. Petronius, the patron saint of Bologna. The basilica is adorned with frescoes, mosaics and statues depicting the city's history, and built with a facade of pink and white marble. No visit to Portici would be complete without a stop at the botanical gardens, filled with exotic plants, flowers and trees. Nearby, the Teatro Anatomico, or Anatomical Theater, was once a medical school. Nowadays, it's home to musical and theatrical performances as well as workshops and exhibitions. There's also the Palazzo della Mercanzia, which is a historical palace and the home to the Chamber of Commerce. Portici is also home to plenty of restaurants and cafés. To make the most of your visit, take a walk along the banks of the Reno river to take in the urban sights.
