Ponte Dom Luis I is an iconic double-decked metal arch bridge spanning the Douro river in Porto, Portugal. Completed in 1886, the bridge was designed by a student of Gustave Eiffel. The bridge was designed as part of a plan for urban renewal for Porto and its main characteristic is that the upper deck was designed for cars, bicyclists and pedestrians, while the lower deck was used for the metro and train links. A popular view of the river, old town and the Maria Pia bridge can be seen from the top of the bridge. The maximum height of the arches above the river is 30m. The two levels of the bridge are 234m and 175m long. Along the upper deck of the bridge, you can see numerous sculptures and engravings, both neo-classical and contemporary styles, along with 4 bronze angels. It is a must-see in Porto and definitely a great spot for photography!
