Ponte 25 de Abril is a suspension bridge located in Almada, Portugal, and is named after the date of the Carnation Revolution. The bridge links the city of Lisbon on the north bank to the town of Almada on the south bank of the Tagus River, and it is a familiar icon of Lisbon, often compared to a twin brother of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. The upper deck of the bridge is a 2.3-kilometer-long highway, while the lower deck is a railway line. The total height of the bridge is roughly 84 meters and its length just over 2 kilometers. Notable features of the bridge include the two giant pylons that stand 155 meters tall and the two large steel cables that span the main deck of the bridge. The bridge is a popular spot for sight-seeing and provides fantastic views of the Tagus River, the city of Lisbon and the town of Almada.
