The small and picturesque neighborhood of Urca, in the south of Brazil's Rio de Janeiro city, is best known for its iconic Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain). This monolith rises almost straight up from 400m, making it a prominent feature of the city’s skyline. At its foot lies the Praça General Tibúrcio, a must for all visitors of the area. At the square, enjoy stunning views of Guanabara Bay, and see historic colonial-era buildings, such as the iconic Forte de Copacabana. A funicular travels up the mountain, allowing travelers to take in all the interesting rock formations, and soak up the sun rays on top. Urca is also known for its captivating beaches, great restaurants, and cosy lodges.
