The Painted Hills is a beautiful natural landmark located in Mitchell, Oregon. It's a part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and is easily one of the most stunning natural sights in the entire Pacific Northwest. The hills are covered in various colours, ranging from black and dark purple, to reds, yellows and oranges. The unique look is due to the presence of volcanic ash and other minerals left behind after the landscape was formed. The amazing colours of the hills can be enjoyed from various trails nearby, from easy paths as well as more challenging ones. Apart from the geological and geological wonders to be seen here, there are numerous wildlife sightings that photographers can capture.
