Drachenfels und Schloss is a famous tourist attraction in the beautiful town of Königswinter, Germany. Set atop a hill, the castle grounds are surrounded by spectacular views of the Rhine River, the Siebengebirge Mountains, and rolling hills. The Drachenfels ("Dragon Rock") dates back to the 12th century and stands as one of the best preserved medieval castles in the area. Inside its walls, you can see reconstructions of the original living quarters and prison cells, as well as a chapel. Outside, there are lush gardens, a tower offering panoramic views, and remnants of a wall created by the Napoleonic era military expansion. A cable car runs up to the summit of the Drachenfels, providing easy access to the castle grounds. Visitors can also hike a picturesque winding path to the summit. When exploring the castle grounds and the surrounding mountains, keep an eye out for wildlife, such as wild boars and deer, as well as a variety of birds.
