Château Comtal is an iconic castle located in the old town of Carcassonne, in southern France. Its history dates back to at least the 11th century, with the castle reaching its peak during the 12th and 13th centuries. The castle is accessible to the public and its two floors consist of two concentric stone circles which guard the entrance. Inside, there is a museum displaying archaeological artifacts, Medieval weaponry and objects belonging to the castle's former inhabitants. Visitors can wander through its ramparts, chapels and gardens and catch magnificent views of the city. The castle also serves as an ode to the past, a testament to the resilient knowledge of stone building techniques and the rich history of Carcassonne.
