The Brömserburg Castle in Rüdesheim is a Gothic castle dating back to 1220. Located on the banks of the Rhine in the beautiful town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in the state of Hesse, Germany, the castle is a popular tourist attraction. Built in typical thirteenth-century architecture and surrounded by fortified walls, the castle's ground plan has remained largely unchanged since it was constructed. It is one of the few castles in Germany that still stands today in its original form! The main features of the castle include the chapel and the south gate, and visitors can explore the dungeon, underground passageways, and outer walls and towers. A moat and drawbridge still stand and the view from the castle atop the hill provides spectacular panoramas of the Rhine Valley. Inside the castle is a museum displaying artifacts from the region, such as coins and documents. The annual Sommerfest (Summer Festival) is a popular event held in late June or early July, with musical performances and a firework show.
