Bratislava Castle is an archaeological and historical site located in Bratislava, Slovakia. Built on a plateau, the castle overlooks the River Danube, the city and surrounding areas. The first castle on this site dates from the 9th century and from then the site has seen a long history of development and expansion. Since then the castle has served as residence for Hungarian kings and the mayor of Bratislava. As of today, the castle is open to the public and serves as a museum that houses artefacts from the Slavic and Roman periods, as well as paintings and furniture from the medieval period, and the Baroque and the Hungarian era. In addition, visitors can enjoy the view of the city from the castle’s observation terrace, where you can also find a café. The complex also includes a chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Elisabeth, and a visitors centre.
