Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter

The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is a beautiful preserved area in Kurashiki, Japan. It was once a bustling old merchant district and today is a popular tourist spot due to its picturesque canals and varied, traditional buildings. An old warehouse lined with willow trees is a popular photography spot for locals and visitors alike. A large shopping street, called Ohashi-dori, lines one side of the old quarter, with small shops selling everything from Japanese knitwear to quaint handicrafts. The Ohara Art Museum is located on the edge of the Bikan area, housing a stunning collection of Japanese and western paintings. Just outside of the museum is Manège, an outdoor square which frequently holds festivals and has a great view of the canal.
