📍 South Korea
Gwanghwamun Gate, located in Sejongno in South Korea, is the entrance to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the main palace of the Joseon Dynasty. It was first built in 1395 and each side of the gate is inscribed with the Chinese characters 晉 (Jin) on the left, and 明 (Ming) on the right. The gate stands between the two large statues of Admiral Yi Sunshin and King Sejong the Great, who had a great impact on the culture and development of the Joseon Dynasty. Gwanghwamun is an important landmark for Koreans and symbolizes the long and elaborate history of the dynasty as well as its deep cultural roots. There are plenty of things to see, learn, and explore here, including a royal guard changing ceremony, pavilions, numerous ancient monuments, and artwork. You can also make the most of the landscaped gardens and take in the beauty of the palace walls.
