The Cliff Dwellings of Shonto in the United States are an incredibly unique and mysterious sight. Built by the Anasazi people some 800 years ago, the Cliff Dwellings are tucked into the face of the sandstone cliffs, high above the Shonto Plateau. Visitors are able to explore the archaeological site and discover a number of ancient dwellings tucked away from the blazing sun.
Exploring the ruins gives an eerie insight into an ancient way of life, including kivas (round ceremonial chambers often built into the masonry of the cliff faces) and an abundance of pottery shards. For the brave and intrepid explorer, the cliff dwellings offer a truly amazing experience. Just remember to bring plenty of water and stay on established trails!
