The Catedral de Mallorca, or La Seu as it is known locally, is one of the most spectacular pieces of Gothic architecture in Spain. The cathedral was built on the site of a mosque, which was constructed by Muslim rulers in the 13th century. After being conquered by the Christians, the old mosque was scrapped and replaced with the present cathedral building in the 14th century. Also located in the cathedral complex is a museum, which houses a great collection of religious artefacts. The museum also hosts special temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
