Beijing National Stadium

Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, is one of the most famed stadiums in the world. Its location in Chao Yang Qu, a popular area in Beijing, makes it a great destination for both travelers and photographers alike. It is about 8 km away from the city centre and can be reached by taxi or public transport.

What truly makes this stadium so unique is its architecture, designed by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. The outer facade is filled with the world’s largest steel structure composed of 44,000 tons of steel. On the inner facade, the 4,000 transparent ETFE roofing cushion make up the roof of the stadium. The stadium is mainly used for football matches, but it can also host music concerts, exhibitions and entertainment activities. The inside seating capacity is around 91,000 and it is an impressive sight to behold. During the day, it is lit up by beams of sunlight that illuminate the metal of its outer walls and the transparent roof. In the evening, its spectacular lighting show is sure to take your breath away. It is without a doubt one of the best places to take in the beautiful skyline of Beijing during the night.
