Arco de Triunfo

The Arco de Triunfo, or Triumphal Arch, is a symbolic gateway to the Passeig de Gracia, one of Barcelona's most famous boulevards. It was built in 1817 to commemorate the tercentenary of the Spanish War of Succession. Standing tall at the junction of Passeig de Gracia, Gran Via and Diagonal, it marks the boundary between the old city and the modern city. The arch is made of granite, with four arched gates leading to the towering Tarragona tower, and decorated with stone sculptures. The interior is painted with allegorical figures and scenes showing the victory of the Spanish troops. At the top is a circle of 24 stars, representing the provinces of the kingdom. Visitors can walk through the arch and admire its intricate details from the inside and outside.
