Purakaunui Falls

Purakaunui Falls are a magical sight in the south-western corner of the Catlins region in New Zealand. Set in a secluded, lush native rainforest, they are one of the most pristine and picturesque waterfalls in the country. The falls drop a total of 52 feet in three tiers, the largest cascade being 28 feet. Certain vantage points provide stunning views of the whole falls, making it a must-see if you’re in the area. The surrounding area is a photographer’s paradise, with plenty of species of native plants and wildflowers, as well as birdlife, providing amazing photo opportunities. The site also includes an impressive 230-meter hiking track with beautiful scenery for those who like a bit of a trek to reach their perfect shot.
