Pantheon

The Pantheon in Rome, Italy is a masterpiece of architecture and engineering. Built in AD 126-128 by the Emperor Hadrian, the Pantheon was intended as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome. This immense circular temple, originally measuring 43.3 meters (142 ft) in diameter and covered by a enormous dome, is one of the best preserved Roman buildings of its kind. Inside, the impressive chamber is dominated by an 8.2 meter (27 ft) diameter opening in the center of the dome, known as the oculus. The Pantheon has several exquisite works of art, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome.
