Opera & Ballet Theatre

Tirana's iconic Opera and Ballet Theatre and Skanderbeg Square is a must-see for anyone visiting this captivating city. Constructed in 1957, the theatre is the largest and most important cultural building in the city. The lobby is of interest; it contains the work of the Albanian painter, Gjergj Permeti. Conveniently located in the city center, the theatre is easy to walk to from most parts of the city. A prominent fixture of the theatre and Skanderbeg Square is the equestrian statue of Skanderbeg, a 15th century Albanian hero. At the base of the statue is a plaque dedicating to Skanderbeg his valiant fight against the Ottoman Empire at the time. The impressive building and statue are flanked by a garden, perfect for a picnic, or to just sit and take in the lively atmosphere around it.
