Gdańsk panorama

Gdańsk is a beautiful coastal city in northern Poland, overlooking the Gdańsk Bay. It is one of the country's major ports and an important trade center. Gdańsk's centuries-old history can be seen in its fascinating architecture. Characteristic Churches, old fortifications and striking bridges are everywhere in its picturesque old town.

The city contains many smaller churches and historical sites, such as the House of Torture and the Wielkie Młyny Museum. But tourists go mainly to Church of Saints Peter and Paul, topped with a tall steeple, or the magnificently-restored Golden Gate and Main town Hall. Gdańsk's industry used to be based mainly in shipyards, but nowadays it concentrates more on technology and light industries. Gdańsk is an important cultural center, with an interesting seaport, The European Solidarity Centre Museum and numerous festivals. There are many outdoor cafes located around the old town, a waterfront park providing an alternative to the hustle and bustle of the city, and lots of seafood to try. With its unique atmosphere, Gdańsk is the perfect place to spend a weekend.
