Carceri Lorusso e Cutugno is a hidden gem in Turin, Italy. This 19th-century prison complex was abandoned in the late '90s, and has since become one of the city's most visited tourist attractions. A little-known and infrequently visited corner of Turin, the complex consists of three bunkers set across a sloping terrain dotted with palm trees and shrubs. The bunkers were originally built as part of a network of anti-submarine batteries; though today, visitors flock to Carceri Lorusso e Cutugno to experience the site's rustic, captivating atmosphere and get lost in its eerily beautiful detritus. Guided tours of the premises are available, allowing participants to soak in the eerie aura that lingers in the air. With its loose masonry, cobbled paths, and war-era architecture, Carceri Lorusso e Cutugno is an attraction that should be on anyone's must-see list when visiting Turin.
