Located in the center of Burgos in the autonomous region of Castilla y León, Burgos Cathedral is one of the most breathtaking examples of gothic architecture in the world. This 12th century Cathedral, featuring a spectacular façade of Galician-style statues and a vast rose window, is the focus of the old town and the resting place of El Cid – the most famous means of Castilian history. Inside the cathedral, the magnificent ribbed vaulting stretches up to be capped off by stained-glass windows which let sunlight cascade through. Ancient tombs are also found through the internal crypt and cloisters. Other attractions include a religious art museum, which has an extensive collection of paintings and stone sculptures, as well as an impressive treasury containing authentic Roman equipment and rings from the Spanish Royal Family. From the roof terrace, an amazing view of Burgos can be appreciated. Burgos Cathedral is a beautiful combination of Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque styles, and is the perfect destination for anyone wanting to view exquisite religious artwork and architecture.
