The Basilica di San Martino is a neo-classical church in the city of Bologna, Italy. It was built between 1731 and 1771, under the patronage of Pope Clement XII, on the site of an earlier Romanesque Church. The basilica is a stunning example of Baroque architecture, with its beautiful facade and a grandiose interior featuring sculptures, frescoes and paintings. The basilica is renowned for its spectacular ambulatory; a monumental passageway lined with 22 arches, sphinxes, intricate ornamentation and medallions inspired by classical antiquity. The church is also home to The Wisdom of Solomon, a painting from the 16th century by Guido Reni, located in the apse. A notable feature of the basilica is its large, octagonal dome and drum with 8 windows that allows beautiful lighting, making it a popular destination with photographers.
