Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is one of the most recognizable symbols of Great Britain. Located in Greater London, Tower Bridge stretches over the River Thames, connecting the city’s two iconic banks – the City of London on the north side and Southwark on the south side. This bridge, built using steel and granite, is often mistakenly referred to as London Bridge. Tower Bridge has two iconic towers connected by two bascules, or walkways, which can be raised to allow ships to pass underneath. Today this drawbridge is opened about 1000 times a year for vessels to pass through. Visitors can get onto the high walkway, which is located between the two towers, and look out over the city from a different perspective. Nearby attractions include the HMS Belfast, a warship from the Second World War stationed in the Thames and the Tower of London, a few steps from the bridge, which served as a palace, prison and armoury over the centuries.
