Kilimanjaro glacier at Gilman's Point, Tanzania is one of the world's most majestic sights. The snow-capped peak stands at more than 19,000 feet on Tanzania's highest mountain and is the highest mountain in Africa. It's a breathtaking sight and a photographer's paradise. The glacier is the main focus of the mountain range, and its snow fields and glaciers are especially beautiful. From below, the ice looks like a group of giant frosted sugar cubes. From atop Gilman's Point, the views are supremely breathtaking – the glacier juts out from the mountain, surrounded by the expansive plains of Tanzania. Hiking up Kilimanjaro is a challenge, especially the summit, but it's well worth the effort. The scenery covers everything from lush montane forests to unworldly volcanic rock fields. Even if you don't hike to the summit, the glacier itself is worth a visit. The easiest way to get to the top is to go with a tour guide, who can also provide helpful information on the area.
