Duomo dell' Assunta, also known as the Cathedral of Erice, is a historic church in Erice, Italy. Built in 1220 at the site of an earlier church, the Cathedral is home to one of the most remarkable examples of Italian Baroque architecture. Inside, the church boasts a gorgeous painted ceiling and 2 chapels, as well as six noteworthy monuments. The 102-meter tall Tower of the Duomo, built in 1662, offers breathtaking views of the city, the Mediterranean, and the nearby Mount Erice. From the top of the tower, visitors can also see the two castles, Balio and Pepoli, located on the city’s two highest hills. The Duomo has been declared a national monument and it is a must-see for most tourists visiting Erice.
