Coreto de S. João de Braga

Coreto de S. João de Braga is a central feature of the historic city centre of Braga, Portugal. It is located in the area known as Praça da República, close to the famous Sé Cathedral. The Coreto is a small monument, built at the end of the 18th century by renowned local sculptor André Reino, who was very active in the region. It is dedicated to Saint John, the patron saint of the city. The monument consists of two parts: the upper part consists of a neoclassical niche, with niches on both sides with five sculpture figures representing the Evangelists, and the lower parthas two twin lions supporting the canopy. It is surrounded by several houses, restaurants and cafes. It is a popular spot for visitors and locals, who often come here to drink coffee or have a meal outside. The monument can be an interesting photographic subject, because of its architecture and its location at the heart of the historic city centre.
