The Taj Mahal is an iconic, ivory-white marble mausoleum located in Agra, India, on the south bank of the Yamuna River. Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632 in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, it is widely considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, characterized by its large scale, intricate detailing, gardens, and reflecting pools.
