Amédée Lighthouse is one of the iconic attractions in New Caledonia. The world's tallest cast iron lighthouse stands tall at 50 metres and is easily visible from miles around. Located on Amédée Island, visitors can explore the lighthouse itself, wander through the nearby gardens or take a boat tour out to the island where you can go swimming, sunbathing or snorkeling. A once functioning lighthouse that had been constructed in 1865, it has now become a historical monument, standing as a symbol of European colonial heritage in the area. The Italian designed and built structure with its distinctive yellow and white stripes is a popular tourist attraction, with the views from the top offering stunning panoramas of the surrounding islands, lagoon and some of New Caledonia’s most spectacular beaches.
