Kazi-Zade Rumi Mausoleum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, is a complex of 16th-century mausoleums of two religious figures in its namesake city. It is a beautiful example of pre-Mongol architecture, and features grand brickwork, symbolically decorated facades, and stunning, vibrant mosaics. The mosque, named after a 13th-century religious leader, Kazi-Zade Muhammad al-Rumi, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Visitors today can still admire the craftsmanship of the archways, sculptures, and colored tiles, as well as take part in a variety of activities outside, including concerts or shopping in the artisanal bazaar.
