Built and opened in 1931, it was constructed to host the matches of the World Cup in 1938. It has a capacity of around 40,500 spectators. During the World Cup, it was the venue for six group matches, the round of 16 and a quarter-final match. The stadium has a unique horseshoe shape, with one of its ends being called the “Double T”, a monolithic three level stand composed of 12,000 seated places. It was recently renovated for the 2016 Euro Cup and has several restaurants, tennis courts, a multi-sport hall, an athletics track and a swimming pool. It is located in the Western suburbs of Saint-Etienne, close to the city center. The Stade Geoffroy Guichard is accessible by public transport, and there are several car parks located nearby.
