Ribblehead viaduct is located in the North Yorkshire Dales of England, and is one of the best-known and most photographed railway viaducts in the UK. Its 24 graceful arches span the spectacular valley of the River Ribble, surrounded by the Yorkshire Three Peaks. The viaduct is one of the highlights of the remarkable Settle-Carlisle Railway, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. It was built as part of a difficult railway route in 1874, taking 7 years and over 4000 workers to complete. Today, the viaduct is a popular landmark that lures trekkers and railway fans. It is a great place to take a walk and admire the picturesque views of the surrounding area. The atmospheric Ribblehead station, nearby, is worth a visit for its preserved buildings and rolling countryside setting.
