Ostrava

Ostrava is the third-largest city in the Czech Republic. It lies in both the Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz district and the Ostrava-City district, with a population of around 300,000 people. The city is home to some of the country's most renowned museums, galleries and theatres, including the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, the Silesian Museum and the Ostrava City Museum.

The New City Hall in Ostrava, situated in the Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz district, is a spectacular building which was constructed at the turn of the 20th century. It was one of the main symbols of the industrial revolution in Czechia and represents the economic power of the time. It is one of the most important historical monuments in Ostrava and is surrounded by stately parks and calm English gardens. The building was restored during the mid-1990s and it now houses the City Hall offices. It is worth taking a look around the building as it has some interesting features, such as a stained glass sky-light in the great hall and the large Ostrava city symbol crest beneath one of the main domes. The building is also a nice place to take in the views of the city and its surrounding countryside.
