Catedral de la Almudena

The Catedral de la Almudena is the Catholic Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Madrid, located opposite the Royal Palace. This Gothic-style Cathedral, which was built between 1883 and 1993, is the symbol of faith and unity of the city. The interior of the Cathedral consists of three naves, with numerous sculptures and paintings, including works by the Spanish sculptor Mariano Benlliure. Visitors can also see the main altar made of Verona marble, as well as the tombs of the Kings of Spain in the crypt. The Cathedral also houses a collection of 111 stained-glass windows, depicting scenes from Biblical history, saints, and different images of Our Lady of Almudena, patroness of Madrid. The Almudena Cathedral is an amazing architectural work and a true representation of Madrid’s spirit and values. It is a must-visit if you are in the city.
