It was built in the early 17th century and is believed to have been established by King Naresuan Ming Makhut the Great. The main feature of the temple is a stunning gold and red gilded 35-metre long reclining Buddha, framed by a bright blue sky and flanked by two Thai-style serpent dragons. Behind the main building are several smaller Chedis and a collection of Buddhas of various poses and Gold-encrusted stupas. The exterior walls of Wat Santitham are covered in exquisitely hand-painted murals, depicting Buddhist stories from both ancient and modern religion. It's a great place to explore, with plenty of scenic lookout points, peaceful resting areas and ornate sculptures. It's also a wonderful place to make merit and receive blessings.
