It was built in 1587 by warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi and is the centerpiece of Miyajima in the Hiroshima Prefecture. It stands in the middle of Itsukushima Shrine and is a stunning example of Japanese architecture. The floor of the pavilion is covered in 12,000 square feet of a traditional tatami mat, making it one of the largest in all of Japan. Inside, visitors can see artifacts from the time of its construction.
