The stone bridge crosses the Rio Nabão on the northeast side of the city. Its origins can be traced back to the 16th century! The 56m (183ft) bridge is the largest in Portugal and is composed of 13 arches, and has been identified as a national monument. Its three large central arches are supported by sturdy pillars, and the side arches are nestled in between. The bridge is constructed of several materials, including marble and granite. The bridge has also been home to many cultural events, such as the Festa do Pão and religious processions, over the centuries.
