At an impressive 12-mile-long and 1.5-mile-wide glacier, Mendenhall gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy one of nature's most incredible–and unique–beauties. Mendenhall is accessible year-round and offers a number of different activities year-round. Visitors can opt to take a guided glacier hike, go stand-up paddleboarding, mountain bike and more in summertime, while winter activities include ice skate, cross country ski, snowshoe and more. In addition to the landscape, Mendenhall is home to some of the most incredible wildlife. From sitka black-tailed deer and Alaskan brown bears to bald eagles and black bears, there is an abundance of wildlife that can be spotted in and around the glacier. The Mendenhall Visitor Center will provide visitors with some tips for viewing wildlife in the area. When visiting Mendenhall Glacier, be sure to bring your camera. With towering mountains in every direction, ancient glaciers cascading down below, and a stunning array of wildlife, it is the perfect place for a stunning photo-op.
