Villafrea de la Reina

Villafrea de la Reina is a small town in the province of Ciudad Real, Spain. The town is located just south of the provincial capital of Ciudad Real and is close to another beautiful city, Andújar.

Villafrea offers a peaceful, rural atmosphere amidst rolling fields of sunflower and olive trees. The town has an ancient feel and offers interesting features such as a wise old tower, which served as a watchtower in the past and as a kind of belfry for the church. Highlights of a visit to the town include a walking tour of the cobblestone streets, a visit to the 13th century church, the 15th century palace and a few ancient family houses. From the top of the hill, visitors can admire stunning views of the countryside as far as the Sierra Morena mountains. Another attraction nearby is the beautiful mountain of Campo de Montiel, a popular destination for hiking trips and horse riding excursions, as well as for nature photography. The mountain also offers stunning lookout points, including the famous Mirador de Don Juane, with views stretching to the Sierra Morena. Lastly, those wanting to take a break from city life can relax in the surroundings of numerous nature reserves nearby where wildlife abounds.
