The Suspension Bridge in South Africa’s Sarah Baartman District Municipality is a unique structure nestled deep in the rural Eastern Cape. Spanning over the Boontjies River, the bridge provides a convenient link between the two villages of Klipplaat and Eugstad, as well as connecting the two Viljeon Hiking Trails on either side. Completed in 1934, the bridge is a relic of a simpler time in South Africa’s history. The stark white against the blue and green of the landscape is a truly breathtaking site. Visitors to the Suspension Bridge can enjoy the views, take in the history and watch the river from any of the picnic sites and spots nearby. There’s also the nearby Church Ruins, where one can explore the ancient buildings that date back to the 19th century.
