La Clerecía

Surrounded by ancient cobblestone streets, La Clerecía and Plaza de San Isidro in Salamanca, Spain, make for a uniquely charming setting. La Clerecía is a 16th century educational complex built by the Jesuit priests. The façade of the main building, the church and a portion of the cloister remain in excellent condition and the buildings are filled with art and artifacts. This has been the seat of the University of Salamanca since it was founded in 1806. Just across the street is the Plaza de San Isidro, one of the liveliest locations in the city. On the main square, you can visit the tourist information center, old buildings, churches and historical monuments. Strolling around, enjoy the vast selection of restaurants and many renowned architectural works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. There's also a large fountain located in the center, making for the perfect place to take a break.
