The iconic Golden Gate in San Francisco, United States, is a critically important landmark of the city. It was named the top American structure by the American Institute of Architects. Under the bridge is the Golden Gate Strait, the 1 mile wide channel connecting the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The bridge itself is 1.7 miles long, making it one of the longest suspension bridges in the world.
